Alaska Nanuaq Commission

The Alaska Nanuuq Commission, established in 1994, serves as a full partner to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the co-management of polar bears. As the primary Native organization advocating for the conservation of polar bears, the commission represents Alaska's polar bear users in all management issues. Their mission is to ensure that Alaska Native hunters maintain the opportunity to harvest these resources through conservation efforts, recognizing the cultural significance of the species to their way of life.
