The ALSAC/St. Jude fundraising offices in Texas moderate the page for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital®, a leading center for pediatric cancer research and treatment. Founded by Danny Thomas, St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Children from all over the world receive treatment at St. Jude, and the hospital shares its research freely with the global medical community. St. Jude is also unique in that families never pay for treatments not covered by insurance. The hospital's groundbreaking research has significantly improved survival rates for childhood cancers, with the overall survival rate increasing from less than 20 percent in 1962 to 80 percent today.
