Arizona Immigrant and Refugee Services (AIRS) was founded in 1989 to provide social, economic, and educational services to the inner city residents of Phoenix. In 2001, the agency began resettling refugees and has since resettled over 1500 refugees and immigrants in Maricopa County. AIRS provides recently arrived refugees and legal immigrants with housing, food, clothing, translation, English-language instruction, job training, employment help, immigration and other referral services. The Refugee Resettlement Program includes the Reception and Placement Program, the Refugee Program, the Matching Program, and the Preferred Communities program. AIRS is a resettlement affiliate of ECDC and receives support from the United States Department of State, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Department of Economic Security of the State of Arizona, and other community groups and individuals.
