The Big Sky Athletic Conference, established in 1963, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013 and is now entering its 56th year overall and 31st year of women's competition. With four original members still in the league and five members with at least 45 years of continuous membership, the conference has remained stable and enduring. The addition of new members and affiliate members, such as North Dakota, Southern Utah, UC Davis, and Cal Poly, has expanded the conference's reach and competitiveness. Idaho also returned most of its sports to the conference in 2014, further solidifying the league's standing.
