The Canyon Courier, formerly known as Smoke Signals, was established in 1955 in Indian Hills to serve the growing mountain community. Under editor and publisher Vern Manning, it became an independent weekly newspaper in October 1958, with a goal to cover news from U.S. 40 on the north to Bailey and beyond on the south, and from Mount Evans to the east Jefferson County line. Today, the Courier focuses on the Evergreen area and continues to provide reliable and local information to unite the community.
