Chin Music Press, founded by Bruce Rutledge and Yuko Enomoto in 2002, was created to fill the gap left by media conglomerates swallowing up publishing companies. The press focuses on contemporary and edgy literature from Japan, creating "literary objects" that are both risky and beautiful. After the success of their book about the aftermath of the levee break in New Orleans, Chin Music Press launched the critically acclaimed imprint Broken Levee Books. Despite challenges such as the recession and the rise of digital books, the press remains dedicated to their vision of creating high-quality, impactful literature.
