Great Lakes Chocolate & Coffee Co. was originally a chocolate retailer, but under the leadership of brothers Paul and Jared Smith, it expanded to include specialty coffees and a comfortable seating environment in 2003. By early 2004, the company began roasting its own coffee beans to ensure quality. The addition of a third Great Lakes Chocolate Café in 2008 and a focus on simplicity and quality have allowed for easy replication and a competitive advantage. The company is now seeking partners for further expansion and offers a drive-thru option at its Lansing, MI location. Great Lakes is known for its fine chocolates and hand-roasted specialty coffees from around the world.
