Herman Melville's Arrowhead

Arrowhead, also known as the Herman Melville House, was the home of American author Herman Melville during his most productive years, 1850–1863. The house, located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, was where Melville wrote some of his major works, such as Moby-Dick and The Confidence-Man. The Berkshire County Historical Society acquired the house in 1975 and operates it as a house museum, offering guided tours and educational programming. The Society also owns 45 acres of field and forest surrounding the property, available for walking. The Berkshire Historical Society is a non-profit corporation dedicated to preserving and disseminating the history of Berkshire County and is committed to the preservation and interpretation of Arrowhead.
