Historic Hudson Valley seeks to interpret the history and culture of the Hudson Valley with meticulous attention to accuracy and thorough research. It aims to present each site and its historical significance in the context of key humanities themes, create programming that responds to various learning styles and interests, and make programs and sites accessible to all members of the community. The organization also maintains high standards of preservation management, safeguards collections, and forges alliances with like-minded organizations. As a museum of historic sites, Historic Hudson Valley owns, restores, preserves, interprets, and promotes historic landmarks of national significance within the Hudson Valley for the benefit and enjoyment of the public. Founded by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in 1951 as Sleepy Hollow Restorations, the organization's mission is to celebrate the history, architecture, landscape, and material culture of the Hudson Valley and ensure its preservation.
