National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Diving Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce, trains and certifies scientists, engineers, and technicians to perform underwater tasks in support of NOAA's mission. With over 400 divers, NOAA has the largest complement of divers of any civilian federal agency and has a 99.97% safe dive statistic. The program's guiding principles of thorough training, adherence to standards and procedures, and use of top-quality equipment have contributed to its excellent safety record. The program also operates a Standardized Equipment Program, which ensures quality control and increases diver safety. Additionally, the program promotes innovation of effective diving technologies and the safe performance of underwater operations for NOAA.
