Reed Memorial Library

The Reed Memorial Library, located in Carmel, at the intersection of Routes 6 and 52, has a rich history dating back to 1881 when the Literary Union of Carmel established the first public library in Putnam County. The library was built in 1913 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. In 2013, voters approved the establishment of the Reed Memorial Library District, ensuring the library's continued commitment to providing cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities to the community. The library offers a wide selection of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and more for loan, as well as public computers, wireless internet access, and a variety of programs and special events.
