The Summit/Akron Solid Waste Management Authority (SASWMA) was established in 1989 to promote solid waste reuse, recycling, and waste minimization. Governed by a Board of 13 trustees, the Authority supports programs such as residential curbside and drop-off recycling, the 5R Initiative, and the “B the 1” Recycling That Works campaign. SASWMA aims to increase reuse-reduce-recycling, sustainability, conservation of natural resources, waste minimization, and preservation of the environment.
