Tamizdat, founded in 1998 by an international group of musicians, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that facilitates international cultural exchange. The organization is motivated by the belief that the international mobility of culture is essential to a healthy global civil society. Tamizdat provides assistance to the international performing arts community in addressing problems presented by U.S. immigration policy and procedure through programs such as TamizdatAVAIL, Visa Assistance, Outreach, The Artist Mobility Forum, and the White Paper Project. Additionally, Tamizdat hosts events to raise awareness of artist mobility issues. The organization's efforts have grown in response to concerns about the negative impact of the U.S. visa process on the presentation of foreign performing artists to U.S. audiences.
