Texas Legal Services Center

The Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) was established in 1977 to facilitate communication between legal services programs in Texas and work on client issues of statewide concern. Initially focused on policy advocacy, TLSC expanded its efforts in the 1980s to include litigation assistance in significant federal cases. TLSC has been involved in a number of landmark lawsuits protecting the rights of pretrial inmates, as well as advocating for expanded services in state schools and hospitals. TLSC has also established the Legal Hotline for Older Texans, providing individual advice and counseling to elderly clients. The center has also provided training and publications to support legal aid programs and has been a leader in utilizing technology to improve access to legal resources for advocates and clients.
