Tomtec Inc is a privately owned company headquartered in Hamden, Conn., with its own software engineering, electrical design group, and mechanical design engineering. The company operates complete shop facilities, including machining, precision sheet metal fabrication, welding, and metal finishing, with in-house capability to manufacture nearly everything it may need. In 1980, Tomtec developed the Gramstainer, which was sold directly in the United States, with sales throughout the world through distributors in various countries. Tomtec's products are sold through local distributors worldwide, and the company continues to evolve by conceptualizing, developing, and manufacturing new instruments in the automated instrument industry. Tomtec Inc employs nearly 100 people.
