The West Harrison Library, originally known as the Silver Lake Free Library, was chartered in 1929 and has since undergone several relocations and expansions. In 1953, it moved to its current location at the corner of Madison and Underhill Streets, and in 1964, an addition was built to double its floor space. The library became a branch of the Harrison Public Library in 1967. In 1977, a major renovation converted the lower level into the children's room, allowing for further expansion and improvement of the library's facilities.
